ICOPRON Ogun State Chapter Marks Milestone in Cooperative Excellence

The Institute of Cooperative Professionals of Nigeria (ICOPRON) Ogun State Chapter recently celebrated a significant milestone at the Yewa Investment Cooperative Hall in Ayetoro, Yewa North, Ogun State, Nigeria. The event focused on the crucial theme of “Revamping Cooperative Legislation for Sustainable Growth and Development,” drawing the participation of Cooperative Professionals and leaders from across the state. Call for Reform in Cooperative Legislation:

The Assistant Director of Cooperative Services in Ogun State, Mr. Adebiyi S. A. ficp, highlighted the imperative need for reform in the Nigerian Cooperative Societies Act of 2004. Emphasis was placed on enforcing laws, leadership tenureship, embracing digital technologies, compulsory insurance, and gender sensitivity. The proposed reforms aim to align with global practices and foster sustainable growth within the cooperative sector. Watch the video here

ICOPRON Ogun State Chapter Report:

Mrs. F. O. Adesina ficp, the State Chapter head, presented a comprehensive report on the financial standing, meetings, and membership strength of the chapter. Membership continues to grow, particularly with an influx of managers from Yewa axis, students of the Ogun State Cooperative College, and the Olabisi Onabanjo University.

Additionally, Mrs. Adesina highlighted the successful participation of Ogun State Chapter members in the Mandatory Continuous Professional Training (MCPT 2023) in Abuja, where fourteen members registered and actively engaged. Recognition was also given to six members who received Fellow Awards at the 7th edition of the National Conference held in FCT, Abuja. Watch the video here

The ICOPRON event was graced by distinguished figures, including the Director of Cooperative Services in Ogun State, Pastor Samuel Mustapha, represented by Alhaji Fattah ‘Braheem FICP (Principal Ogun State Cooperative College, Ijeja, Abeokuta, Ogun State) and the National President of ICOPRON, Dr. Olubunmi Fajobi mni, ficp, Ph.D represented by the National PRO, Muhammad S. LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT BEST WAY TO GROW ORGANISATION

Learning and development has been described as the best way to grow business and safe organization from frustrations. Therefore, it is time for learning and development leaders to stop reacting to training requests and start meeting real performance needs.

However, learning and development professionals desiring to add value to their Cooperative organizations need to learn to focus on training that would add value and start training at the right time for the right members.

Speaking at the 5th Annual Union Retreat of Ike Oluwa Sagamu Remo Cooperative Multipurpose Union Limited held on Saturday, 18th November, 2023 at the Union Building, Olowowere Area, Iparufu Soyindo, Sagamu, Ogun State, with the theme: “Organization Development Scale Up Leadership”, the Vice President of OGSCOFED Limited and President Remo Branch I, Chief Mrs Adenike Ajayi, said a learning organization is an organization skilled at creating, acquiring and transferring knowledge and modifying its culture to reflect new knowledge and insight while having the agility to adapt to changing environments.

She explained that in Cooperative organization, learning is valued, encouraged and recognized, while access to training and personal development is open and flexible, within available resources.

Mr. Babatunde, the Zonal Assistant Director of Cooperative Services Sagamu Local Government said that any management of organization that is not delivering the required results should be replaced with effectives for the growth of the organization. “If Trustees is not delivering results the shareholders should change the trustees.”

Mr. Ola Otinwa ficp, President Ike Oluwa Sagamu (Remo) CMU Limited, said it is very important for members to come together and understand the important ways of doing Cooperative business.

EXPERTS URGE YOUNG COOPERATORS TO LEVERAGE ON INNOVATIONS

Youths have been urged to embrace innovation, digital disruptive change, and technology and form formidable partnership while harnessing their potential to succeed through the Cooperative Societies.

The President of Ike – Oluwa Sagamu Cooperative Multipurpose Union Limited and Founder of Ola Cooperative Foundation – OCF, Mr. Otinwa Lanre Abraham revealed this while speaking at the Ogun 2023 International Youth Day Celebration in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital on Saturday, 12th August , 2023 with the theme: “Achieving Innovation in Cooperative Practices Through Youth Cooperative Society”.

Otinwa posited that promoting youth cooperative can further strengthen innovation by leveraging the young minds on fresh ideas and creativity to drive positive change within the cooperative societies.

He, however, appealed to the youth to leverage mentorship and collaboration with experienced members and elders to bridge the generation gap and build a strong foundation for sustainable innovation in the cooperative.

“youth cooperative societies have the potential to bring fresh ideas and perspective to the cooperative movement, leading to meaningful innovation and sustainable growth”.

“By increasing the energy and creativity of the young people, the cooperative societies can therefore create a positive impact on both their members and the communities they serve”, he added.

In his remarks at the event, the President, Ogun State Co-operative Federation Limited, Alhaji Wasiu Olaleye FICP, called on the youth to be innovative and enhance economic and human capital development that will contribute to the development of cooperative societies.

Olaleye, while reeling out various opportunities embedded in the cooperative movement, further urged the youth and cooperative players to collaborate and form formidable partnerships to place cooperative practice at the centre state of the global dialogue.

“The Cooperative President maintained that with greater awareness of the importance of the cooperative to human and society development, as well as its multiplier effect can positively and directly impact livelihoods.

Badejo Adeyemi, President OGSCOFED Youth Cooperative

In his welcome address, the President, OGSCOFED Youth Cooperative Multipurpose Society, Badejo Adeyẹmi, described Cooperative as a successful and democratic movement which has addressed major challenges facing business and humanity.

He said, “It is with great pleasure that I welcome you all to the maiden edition of Ogun 2023 International Youth Day and the first of it’s kind in the history of Cooperative Movement in Ogun State and Nigeria”.

“On this day, we gather young people, experts, and partners across the world to commemorate the day with the theme: “Green Skills For Youth: Towards a Sustainable Future”.

“In order to promote the good image of cooperative in Ogun State, we have decided to have our celebration this year with the theme: “Harnessing innovation among youths through Cooperative”.

“As a young cooperator, we want to address the existing stereotypes and young people’s perception of cooperatives as old-fashioned businesses by educating them on how cooperative enterprises actually work”.

“We can change this perception by involving young people at our societies, Unions, Apexes and State Federations for a more visible change, growth and development”, he added.

The epoch making event also witnessed a paper presentation on the topic, “Youth Involvement in Cooperative Development”, delivered by Chief (Mrs) J. Ola Bisiriyu, erstwhile Executive Secretary, OGSCOFED Limited.

Important dignitaries at the event that gave goodwill messages and encouraging words to the youthful participants at the occasion include; the Director of Cooperative Services in Ogun State, Ministry of community development and cooperatives, Pastor Samuel Mustapha ably represented by the Deputy Director of Cooperative Services, Mr. A. A. Ogunjimi, Mrs. Adekoya (Zonal Assistant Director of Cooperative Services, Abeokuta South), Otunba Adesoga Tikare (Otunba Akarigbo of Remoland and a Cooperative lawyer), Alhaji Braheem Fattah (Principal, Ogun State Cooperative College, Abeokuta), Mr. Victor Oyegoke (President/CEO CRASoN – The Cooperative Rating & Award Society of Nigeria), Muhammed S. Alayo Zone under Mawuko CDC trains Community Youths on entrepreneurship skills.

As part of efforts of Alayo Zone Community to educate and empower the community members on entrepreneurship and financial education that would enable them to earn more income and improve their businesses.

On Saturday, 24th of December, 2022 Alayo Zone under MAWUKO Area CDC Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State organized ONE DAY Entrepreneurship and Financial Literacy workshop 1.0: Sensitization of the Community to grow the income of each family in the Community at Alayo Zone Meeting ground, Mawuko Abeokuta, Ogun State

Alayo Zone is one of the zones under the Mawuko Area Community Development Council, under Odeda Local Government Area in Ogun State. The zone comprises ten (10) Community Development Associations. They ensure to improve the quality of lives of individuals and families in their communities to bring about social change.

At the occasion, the Chairman, of Mawuko Area CDC, Chief Kalejaye Muideen welcomed all participants to the training and asked the participants to pay maximum attention. He said further that this is the first of its kind in the history of Mawuko and then appealed to the participants not to take this opportunity for granted.

The Chairman of the day, Elder Ayanbiyi in his words encouraged the youth to be hard-working and remain focused. He thereafter declared the workshop open.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Alayo Zone, Chief Akin Agbaje thanked God for the success of the event and appreciate all participations and community leaders for coming.

The first facilitator, Ifeoluwa A. Adesanya, the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture Youth Entrepreneurs (NYE) State Coordinator spoke about the meaning of entrepreneurship, the Qualities of an entrepreneur, SWOT analysis, Marketing Business, and how to save for the future.

The second facilitator, Olaniyi Ogunmekan, Cooperative Auditor and Extension Officer for Abeokuta Branch I of Ogun State Co-operative Federation Limited spoke about the brief history of Cooperative, the meaning of Cooperative, the main purpose of Cooperative, Cooperative and entrepreneur and Steps for joining and forming a cooperative Society.

Certificates of participation were presented to the participants.

Also, a medical checkup was rendered to all the participants.
